IU Loan Debt Notification
In 2012, near the beginning of the nation’s focus on the troubling rise of education loan debt, Indiana University began creating and distributing annual student loan debt notifications to borrowers. In 2015, the Indiana State legislature passed a law requiring that every college and university that participates in state aid programs must send a notification, annually. Five years later, these are required by law in thirteen states.
Indiana University is proud to have been at the forefront of the effort to increase awareness about borrowing, and to help students make smart choices.
Over time, our notification has evolved. The current message has been simplified to improve readability and put the emphasis on the numbers. This template is the latest version for undergraduate students.
