University Student Services and Systems (USSS), a division of University Administration, supports the academic and student services missions of Indiana University by coordinating and managing university-wide operations in admissions, financial aid, student records, student demographics, access administration, and veteran’s affairs.
USSS provides institutional research and reporting for university customers, governmental agencies, and other external organizations. USSS also performs university-wide operations in the areas of information security, data administration, operational support, reporting, internal controls, academic policy implementation, and compliance.
USSS is currently leading the Student Services Initiative (SSI), designed to enhance customer service, implement best practices, and reduce operating costs in campus and university offices of student records, student financial aid, student financials, student advising, and student admissions operations.
USSS includes the units and departments listed below. USSS falls within the office of the Executive Vice President for University Academic Affairs.
Admissions Shared Services supports all IU Domestic Undergraduate Admissions offices by performing data processing under the Shared Services model. - Financial Aid
USSS Financial Aid serves the campus financial aid offices by performing a back-office Financial Aid processes under the Shared Services model. The team also maintains and configures the SIS and insures that IU policies and procedures conform to federal, state and institutional regulatory requirements.
- Student Records
University Student Services and Systems – Student Records is a team of professionals that works in partnership with all campuses of Indiana University to gain efficiencies in student records operations and enterprise-wide systems support through shared services.
- Student Data Management
The Office of Student Data Management & Access provides the shared services of assigning access to USSS enterprise systems and reports for employees across all campuses, evaluating data requests from internal and external organizations, identifying and enforcing training and compliance requirements for accessing systems containing student data, and ensuring the privacy rights and protections afforded by FERPA are upheld for all Indiana University students.
- Veterans Services
The University Military and Veterans Services Coordinator oversees compliance with US Departments of Veterans Affairs and Defense regulations related to education benefits. The Coordinator provides advice to IU administrators on military and veteran student education issues, shares student services best practices among IU campuses, and facilitates training for IU staff members on military and veteran education programs.
- University Institutional Research and Reporting (UIRR)
University Institutional Research and Reporting (UIRR) completes myriad federal and state compliance reports and produces official university reports on admissions, enrollment, retention, graduation rates, degree completions, and financial aid for Indiana University and all its campuses. UIRR maintains and provides data that support IU's compliance-reporting, accreditation, decision-making, and strategic planning processes.
